Film Review

The Documentary that I watched is called The Bleeding Edge and it is a 99 minute Netflix produced documentary. This Documentary actually fits very well with my topic of focus which is advancements in technology and its effect on our lives. Technological advances have been responsible for numerous groundbreaking developments in Modern Medicine that have directly improved millions of lives. But, as this film covers, there is a dark side to the relentless pace of all this innovation. I read a film review of The Bleeding Edge on the Variety, an entertainment magazine that publishes many reviews.

In this case, the review was incredibly positive on the film. It is important for reviews to have as little bias as possible which can be difficult when doing a review. Whether or not the film was enjoyed, it is crucial that the review thoroughly explains the reasoning for liking/disliking. This reviewer, Owen Gleiberman clearly enjoyed the film and he very thoroughly explained what specifically influenced his opinion. At the end of the review he writes “’The Bleeding Edge’ needs to be seen, so that it can change hearts and minds.”(Gleiberman). Reviews in general need to be influential and honest. They should be personal in that people want to be able to relate to the film and the opinion of the film. Earlier in the review Gleiberman states that the film “is about that paradigm-shifting corruption of the American system, but it roots its critique in an intimate look at the lives and medical complications of ordinary folks who’d put their faith in their physicians, only to emerge betrayed”. A statement like this not only makes someone want to see the film but it makes everyone feel like they need to see it as it is a serious problem effecting almost everyone.
